New Life to an Old Attic - Yay!

{Basically a miracle}
Even I would have never thought paint could give a place this much new life.
My right arm is about to fall off and I'll be painting in my sleep, but it was worth it!!

Before and After:

Upon further inspection, we found that behind the cabinets, there is no wall and no flooring. The wall goes right to the studs and sub-flooring. So that changed our plans a bit.  Being winter (a bitterly cold weekend,13 was the high!) we chose to go with what was most needed- which was to work on a new desk area. So we ripped out only one bank of cabinets - which turned out to be plenty of work.   Paul had to add insulation and drywall. Here's a few 'during' pics'.

 The desk is yet to be built but the horrid clutter of what was there is long gone.
Finishing up the drywall,  paint and we'll be ready to go.   I've got fab ideas for a creative desk area.

{What we did}
  • Saturday: I did all the wall painting. Actually pretty smooth going, since there was no priming to be done and no holes to fill.  We had the paint already from a previous project, so didn't need to buy it. (I'll add the paint colors when I get a chance.)
  • I painted the cabinet and bedroom door black.  Love it!
  • Sunday: I painted 1,2,3 on the cabinet doors. - printed them from the computer, cut them out, traced them on the doors, then hand painted them.  (sounds tough - but super easy)
  • Paul ripped out the left cabinet, insulated and began the drywall.
  • I painted the iron railing black (temporary fix until I can get The Cabinet Maker to make one.)
  • There was a Home Depot run to buy drywall, electrical supplies, (1 outlet moved and 1 added.) Gallon of black paint - to keep on hand. Also purchased 2 new light fixtures.. yahoo!
{Still to do}
  • Finish the drywall, paint that area.  Repair the floor
  • Change out old light fixtures with the new ones.
  • Fresh coat of white on trim.
  • I need to decide if other doors (2) will be black or white.
  • Stain the floor.
  • Desk!
The little weird window room is a small bathroom.  I think the original owners meant to put a little window there but never did.   It brings in light, so instead of covering it up, I had an old window so we hung it to give a little character.
Right now it kind of looks like jail.. LOL, but more to follow.
Teaser:  Wait till you see the redo on this tiny bathroom :)

Super happy with the results.  Thrilled with the numbers!

Now can I have Monday off work?!
Have a great week!

  5. After all that painting, you deserve a break, Jeanne! If I had done all that painting, I would have wanted the whole week off. LOL

    It all looks terrific. That black paint really dressed everything up nicely.

    Thanks for linking your fun projects to the party each week.
